The Elderly Truth
The elderly population is the fastest growing segment of the US population. According to the US Census Bureau, 38.9 million people were 65 and older in 2008, making up 12.8% of the total population with 5.7 million who were 85 years old and older. These numbers are going up to this day.
As we age, we tend to show an increase in the incidence of certain pain syndromes. Sometimes we just think (incorrectly) that pain is just part of the normal process of aging and we keep things underreported. We should not. Fortunately, we can go to our favorite doctor, request a comprehensive pain assessment, and receive relevant information on how to deal with or overcome pain. Experts and researches recommend a multidisciplinary approach to determine all possible alternatives for optimal pain management.
If you feel pain, contact your doctor now and request a pain assessment.
